On Sunday we went to the Wishes for the Sky event on Harriet Island across the river from downtown St.Paul. The event focused on peace with the Earth. We saw (and participated in) artistic pieces including an interactive sculpure (video above) and sound collage. We also flew special dedicated kites, sending our wishes of peace up into the sky. I think my wife summed it up well by saying that everyone there is so hopeful. It was a really great event and I will certainly be attending next year.
I bought a cookie today from the Nestle Toll House shop at the Mall of America. At the counter I pointed to an M&M cookie and said, "Could I have one of those, please?" The girl behind the counter slid a cookie into a bag and told me it would be $3.49. I was about respond with, "What?! That better be a GOOD cookie!" Then I looked into the bag. Oh my! Not just one but TWO M&M cookies as large as my hand, and sandwiched between them had to be a solid inch of frosting! I was too awestruck to tell the girl it wasn't what I wanted, and I admit I could only get part way through it before the sugar made me shudder.
I think I missed a memo. This train is packed and I have no idea why. Must have something to do with the Twins because everyone has jersey's on. If I were a baseball fan I might know why my routine was being disrupted. I'm not the only one though. I can spot a few other regular riders scowling about not having a seat. There's even a sort of collective aire of righteousness. "We deserve those seats because we belong here." I imagine that's a hint of what people in other places must feel when we loud obnoxious Americans show up demanding more than our share of available resources, huh? I'd never thought about it that way before!
